West End car racer Jon Barnes had two wins snatched from his grasp in the Powertrain Caterham R400 Challenge at Oulton Park.
The 20-year-old qualified his PremierRoadloandTrack.com-backed car in third position on the grid and led both races only for electrical problems to dash his hopes.
Barnes looked set to win a five-way battle for honours in the sprint race when he led into the last lap only for an electrical fault to plunge him back into eighth place while championship leader Luke Stevens went on to claim his first win of the season.
Former kart champion and series newcomer Tom Ferrier profited from Barnes's misfortune in the feature race when, again on the ninth lap, the electrics malfunctioned to sideline the young Hampshire star while in the lead.
