Sir.-My wife and I wish most strongly to add our support to the Gazette campaign to have St George's Day recognised as a public holiday and to have it celebrated each year by some public recognition, such as a parade or some such similar event.

In fact, for some time I have been trying to find someone who can supply me with a flagpole socket, which can be fixed to the wall of our house so that we can display the St George flag in the same way that the Americans do with their national flag.

Sir.-I fully support your campaign to make St George's Day a public holiday.

My wife is from Basingstoke, and when we first married I lived there myself for a number of years.

We live in Wales now, which is where I am from, and St David's Day is not a public holiday either, but my wife and I celebrate both days.

I always buy her a red rose on St George's Day and she always buys me a daffodil on St David's Day.

I wonder if any other people do the same?
