THE young designers and engineers of the future went head-to-head to compete in an egg race with a difference.
Participants from 40 schools took up the challenge to design and manufacture a water-powered jet vehicle.
Using a two-litre coke bottle and valve, youngsters had to design a vehicle that would travel over a flat surface in a straight line, while transporting an egg - and without breaking it.
Hampshire schools taking part were Sholing Technology College, Woodlands Community College in Southampton, Applemore College in Dibden Purlieu, Crofton School in Fareham and Mountbatten School in Romsey.
Professor Richard Penson, Associate Dean for External Development in the Faculty of Technology said: "Hopefully, more youngsters will be inspired to consider a branch of technology as an interesting and rewarding career choice."
