Romsey police are warning homeowners to be on alert for bogus traders offering to resurface driveways.
They say a vulnerable elderly couple in North Baddesley were stung for a large amount of cash after a team of workers put pressure on them until they agreed to have the job done.
A spokesman said: "From the evidence of this particular case, the work is of an extremely inferior quality and I would strongly advise against anyone accepting work from these people."
Police at Romsey would like to speak to anyone who has been contacted by these workers, who have Irish accents.
