A stroke of genius helped Hayling assistant Mark Treleaven to a five-shot win in the 36-hole Captain's Charity Tenth Anniversary Pro-Am at South Winchester.
Treleaven holed a his seven-iron second shot for an eagle at the tough 450-yard 15th hole and it effectively relegated the chasing Bruce Parker (Brokenhurst) and Gary Stubbington (Hockley) into a share of second place.
Treleaven had shared the halfway lead with home pro Richard Adams and Waterlooville's John Hay after opening up with a 70.
But as the conditions deteriorated, Adams and Hay were unable to maintain their opening round form, and Hampshire Open champion Treleaven defied the strengthening wind and frequent showers to move into a healthy lead with a four-under-par second round of 68.
Parker recovered from an opening round of 74 to shoot a three-under 69 while Stubbington remained the model of consistency adding a level par round of 72 to his opening round of 71.
The tournament helped raise funds for club captain David Farthing's nominated charity, the Naomi House Children's Hospice.
