"DON'T panic, don't panic - it's the Lymington Carnival!"

Corporal Jones and Captain Mainwaring saw their first service in decades as locals from a New Forest pub donned the gear of the Home Guard to ensure the day was a success.

And with a press pack and glamour girls in tow the Borough Arms regulars were going to be kept on their toes.

But order prevailed even despite the best efforts of the wickedly named mobile garden tea party Ground Farce.

These were just a handful of the colourful characters enjoyed by New Forest residents at the annual Lions Club-organised Lymington Carnival.

The Coastguard and Fire Brigade joined the three-hour procession through Lymington town centre to Pennington.

Equestrians were also out in force with members of three floats on horseback.

Starting from Marsh Lane, the parade weaved along Gosport Street, up the High Street and up St Thomas' Street. Finally, after taking in Highfield Road, Whitaker Crescent and Priestlands Road, revellers ended up at a fun fair on Pennington Common.

All money raised will be divided among the various youth groups who took part in the carnival, such as the Guides, the Air Training Corps, the Lawrence Boys Club and the Gateway Club for adults with special needs.
