PUPILS at Sparsholt Primary School trekked seven miles to Winchester to raise more than £200 for good causes.
The 95 children at the school took part in the sponsored walk with Year 6 pupils completing
the entire course on St Swithin's Day.
The Sparsholt School Pilgrimage was the brainchild of head teacher Stephen Young who wanted to strengthen the school's religious focus.
He said: "At my job interview I said we needed to deepen the school's Christian ethos. I was asked how I would do that in practice and I said by making a pilgrimage, a year later we were doing it.
"The children didn't complain very much despite the fact that it was certainly a challenge."
The off-road route led the children from their school to Winchester Cathedral via Compton and St Cross.
All money raised will go to Naomi House children's hospice, the Trinity Centre for the homeless and Sparsholt Playground Association.
