DESPITE downpours and the loss of four girls to the English Schools' Championships, Southampton City still took a respectable fourth place of seven in the Wessex Young Athletes' League at Poole.
In the under-11 girls' age-group, Laura Pelligrini showed she is a real prospect by pulling off a 75m/600m double.
Louise Webb took a rest from her usual middle distance events after her long trip back from the English Schools in Gateshead, but still managed to win the under-15 hurdles and B discus.
There were other under-15 wins for Amy Matthews (100m) and Lizzie Dunn (javelin), while Dunn also placed third on her high jump debut.
Charlotte Benning won the under-17 women's 800m and there were second places for the under-17 men's trio of Dean Wilson (100m/long jump), Mark Colmer (200m) and Jack Brenton (discus).
Kellie Porter nailed three second places for the under-13 girls and there were promising club debuts from Rachel Lee and Jessica Higginbottom.
Athletes of any ages interested in joining City should contact Des Webb on 07769 935673.
