DESPITE the threat of stormy weather Stockbridge Carnival pulled in the crowds.

"It was very busy," said Dave Watts, one of the organisers. Four groups benefiting from festival funds are Stockbridge Football Club, the Mayfly Youth Group, the Evergreens and the over '60s of Chilbolton.

Up to 43 stalls displayed their wares and non-stop entertainment took place in the arena. Stalls at the carnival included a pick-a-duck stall and one selling crystals.

Stockbridge Pre-school was judged to have the best float and Stockbridge Scouts won the children's fancy dress competition.

The prize for 'best-dressed shop' was won by Grand Prix newsagents in the High Street.

The Three Cups Inn came first in the best-dressed pub category.

The Royal Air Force Association displayed a model aircraft bomber and Danebury Motor Cycle Club provided entertainment in the form of motorcycles in the arena.

Shire horses took part in the parade thanks to Mr Whatley and Mr Davis who regularly enter their horses in ploughing matches.
