BECKI STANLEY from Southampton Trampoline Club exceeded all expectations at the National Grade 1 finals at Birmingham's Indoor arena.
In front of a large crowd and Sky television cameras, Stanley produced two good routines in the over-18 women's preliminary rounds to finish fifth.
Clubmate Claire Madigan also produced her best effort in securing joint 11th spot, only missing out on the final ten by 0.2 of a mark.
For Steph Stanley, Birmingham proved to be one step too far.
Her training has suffered recently because of illness and, although she did well to reach the finals, she crashed out in the preliminary round and announced her retirement from competitive trampolining.
Katie Woodgate looked good for a while in the under-18 girls' competition but she fell off after four moves in her voluntary section when attempting a high tariff routine. Had she pulled it off, she would surely have been among the medals.
