FUN for all the family is on the cards on Saturday as Fareham is transformed for its annual gala day.

Organisers say the event will be the biggest and best ever and are predicting a huge turnout.

Final preparations are now being put in place for Saturday when stalls, games and activities will line the length of West Street and children can enjoy model railway rides.

Dozens of community groups and organisations are taking part in the day, organising events while also raising much-needed funds.

Other attractions include outdoor games, face-painting, dance displays, clowns, rides, street entertainers and a disco.

Entertainment comes in the form of a samba band, jazz orchestra and soul band from Brookfield School, the Silhouette Majorettes, Stubbington Square Dance Club and the Tricolex Morris Dancers.

For the first time this year, the event is being supported by Ocean FM whose breakfast show DJs David Perry and Pippa Head will be broadcasting live from West Street.

It is brainchild of town centre manager George Cantrill.

He said: "It gets bigger and better every year and this year we've got more support than ever before."

Prizes available on the day include a family trip to Legoland, Windsor and one of three luxury hampers from Marks and Spencer.

The gala day will be opened by the mayor of Fareham Councillor David Swanbrow at 10am.

It runs until 4pm.
