HOOK found themselves with the bridemaids tag in the last football season.

They finished runners-up in the Basingstoke and District League and were also beaten in two cup finals.

Hook are still one of the most successful local sides, having won the premier division crown six times in the last 12 years.

Last season they were in with a shout of the title before having to settle for second spot, four points behind winners New Inn.

In a league campaign of 20 games their biggest wins came at either end of the season - when they beat Oakridge West 8-1 in September and then hit seven past Wellington in April.

In the Oakridge victory, Adie Green helped himself to a hat-trick, while Colin Rogers netted a brace and there were single goals for Nigel Moreton, Richard Sygrove and James Kemp.

Green scored another treble against Wellington, while Peter Sylvester, Stuart Charles, Mark Stent and Matt Aslett also got on the score-sheet.

Two other chances of silverware also slipped through their fingers last season.

In March, at the Camrose, they were beaten 4-1 in the North Hants May Cup by New Inn and then they were beaten 2-0 in the Basingstoke A Cup by division one top dogs R and B Sports a month later.

During the season Hook did produce a number of excellent cup wins. In the Hampshire Junior A Cup they saw off AFC Popley 7-3 and then, in an earlier round of the Basingstoke A Cup, they beat Silchester 6-0, with Green scoring five times and Charles netting their sixth.
