JUDO player Marissa Laing won a silver medal after a tough under-32kg final in the Northern Home Counties Open at High Wycombe.
The 11-year-old Southern Area star from the Paul Jones School of Judo returned to form with some impressive counter-attacking in the group stages.
Her sister, Sian Laing, narrowly missed out on the bronze medal.
The following day, the Black Dam-based judo club organised the first-ever Basingstoke Lower-Grades Rumble for local red and yellow belts at Costello Technology College.
Meant as an introduction to competition for younger players, nearly 100 juniors from 10 clubs attended.
Gold medals were won by 11 Jones players - Shannine Morris, Bianca Sacre, Hannah Shields, Hannah John, Ethan King, Charlie Stoner, Christian Deane, Thomas Mauchline, Alexander Smith, Lewis Hannington and Liam McMurray.
The club also won 14 silver and 19 bronze medals. With support from a number of ex-internationals, older players and parents, the competition was a success.
Profits will go towards the purchase of a crash mat and scoreboards for future events.
