PUPILS at a New Forest school celebrated its 150th anniversary by dressing up in Victorian costumes.
Children have been taught at Marchwood Infant School since 1854, thanks to local benefactor Horatio Holloway.
Mr Holloway lived at Marchwood Lodge - now Marchwood Priory Hospital - and decided to build a school in what was then a quiet country lane. Staff and children marked the building's anniversary by staging a week of celebrations.
Highlights included Victorian Day, when the 200 pupils donned 19th-century outfits and took part in lessons from the period.
Staff spoke to the children in formal tones and never addressed each other by their first names.
A school spokesman said: "The children loved dressing up - but I think one or two were not sure about the strictness."
Historical exhibits for the celebrations were supplied by the Twigg's Lane school's former head teacher Geoff Smith.
