IT'S happened for them and it can happen for you. This Cub, Beaver and Scout group in Southampton is the first to get a helping hand in our £10,000 cash give-away.

The Itchen North Scout group in Thornhill has received £325 in the Daily Echo Combined Insurance Make it Happen Awards.

We teamed up with Kingston upon Thames company Combined Insurance to give all our readers the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the people in their communities.

We've had more than 100 entries from a huge variety of groups and individuals, all of whom have got some great ideas to make good things happen.

Scout leader Robin Granson was one of our first applicants. He told us about his group's desperate need for cash. He doesn't charge subs and children can rarely afford to buy the workbooks that help them achieve their goals.

Which is why, thanks to Make it Happen, the group will soon have a £325 photocopier.

Robin Granson said: "This money will help us to further the training of the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers. It will enable them all to have their own training aids.

"Thornhill is quite a run-down area and this money means the children can learn lots of new skills. We were all delighted by this grant."

There's still time to apply for some cash. You don't have to belong to a registered charity; Make it Happen is open to everybody.

To apply for an award fill in the form published in today's Daily Echo.
