HAVING played to audiences across the world, including Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto and Australia, funny man Sean Hughes is now coming to the Quay Arts Centre, Newport, Isle of Wight - thankfully a little closer to home.
As the youngest Perrier Award winner at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in 1990, Sean has marked out a successful comedy career for himself. Reigning as a team captain on the BBC2 show Never Mind The Buzzcocks, for five years and starring in his own seven-part sitcom Sean's Show, he really is a man of many trades.
Beyond his comical side, Sean has written two collections of prose and poetry with his first book Sean's Book having sold 40,000 copies as well as two critically acclaimed novels - The Detainees and It's What He Would Have Wanted.
He also appeared in The Commitments, The Butcher Boy and Puckoon. He's come a long way since 1987 when he first started doing stand-up in comedy clubs.
Quay Arts Centre, Newport, Isle of Wight. Fridya, July 15. Performance: 8pm. Tickets: from £9. Box Office: 01983 528825.
