ANDY FORBES, who scored 76 goals for Winchester City last season, is set to stay with the club after all - but maybe only for a short time.

The 24-year-old has been talking to a number of clubs this summer with a view to moving to a higher grade of football. But he now says if he can't move into the professional ranks he'll stay with City for the time being.

AFC Bournemouth were keen to sign him but couldn't agree terms, while Yeovil and Sheffield Wednesday had also expressed an interest in the 'goal machine.'

City have been looking for a fee of £30,000 for the player and Conference side Farnborough came close to meeting that figure.

Forbes is an electrical salesman and is looking to keep his job in case a move to the professional ranks fails to work out. He's set to play for City again this season, although the club will let him go if a Football League club were to offer the right deal.

Smith still searching Meanwhile, Danny Smith is pressing ahead with efforts to move to a higher grade.

The former City skipper has been training with Conference outfit Aldershot Town, who went full-time professional during the summer. He'd previously spoken to Exeter City and Weymouth.
