THE week-long Tidworth Area Festival reached its climax on Saturday with an extravaganza of entertainment at Castledown School.

The festival which was run for the first time last year has expanded its duration and horizons by taking in neighbouring villages and including a dance in Ludgershall's Memorial Hall.

The new venue for the main event at the secondary school between Tidworth and Ludgershall reflected this change.

Unfortunately the weather was not kind and probably had an effect on numbers but those who did attend found a wide range of attractions on offer.

Top of the list was the internationally renowned Lucknow Band, which is based at Tidworth Garrison.

There was also music from local school choirs and Hautbois, a duo comprising Helen and Rick Heavisides who performed Elizabethan music in period costumes.

Animal attractions included a dog display and ferret racing.

For the thrill-seekers there was plenty of action as well with funfair rides, buggies, quads and Harley Davidson motorcycle rides on offer.

Maypole dancing and line dancing added to the fun. Catering and refreshments were provided courtesy of the 1st Battalion Staffordshire Regiment.
