Decamping to the Royal Southampton's Beaulieu River clubhouse for the weekend is an annual treat for members, who can enjoy dinghy sailing, raft building and keelboat racing in the Western Solent during the day with a barbecue and disco in the evening - not forgetting the all-important tug-o-war between competing boat crews.
Last weekend's annual regatta was not blessed by the customary summer sunshine.
On Saturday the race committee curtailed the programme after two races, when various boats suffered damage to sails and had to withdraw in the strong westerly winds, gusting to 28 knots.
On Sunday conditions had calmed down and the event got back on schedule with windward/leeward courses set for the main part.
Gins Regatta overall results Class 1 (IRC) 1, Jambalaya (J109 - Andrew Bird); 2, Little Xtra III (X-362 - Peter Cross); 3, Starspray (First 31.7 - Ross Bateson) Class 3 (RSYC Handicap) 1, Faze 3 (Bavaria 44 - Andrew & Linda Campbell); 2, Backchat (Prism 25 - Roger Townsend); 3, Prospect of Sussex (Dehler 41 - Russell Hawkins).
