THE 151,400 ton RMS Queen Mary 2 is in the forefront of a new crew-training initiative aimed at raising on-board passenger service levels to even higher standards.
New crew members are now undergoing an extra five weeks of instruction as part of the shipping line's White Star Academy programme in addition to any other training and induction schemes.
During these five weeks trainees will learn about topics which include Cunard service, firefighting, lifesaving and general company information.
A company spokesman said: "The White Star Academy is a Cunard Line training programme designed to further enhance the level of personal service we provide our guests.
"First we implement rigorous recruitment standards to ensure that all our new employees come to us with the skills needed to provide the service our guests expect when sailing with Cunard Line.
"Then, under this new programme, first-time employees are given this extra training before assuming their normal frontline duties.
"We know the knowledge and experience they gain from their training period will give them the support they will need to succeed in their chosen careers at sea.''
