COMMEMORATION of D-Day: On June 5, in Dummer Village Hall, The Maidenthorne Singers presented a Commemoration of D-Day in word and song.
With the aid of modern technology they were able to present a portrait of life, while retaining the atmosphere of the war years.
Memories of some of the villagers were available to read, including one who had been on Juno beach at the time.
There were also memories of the fuel pipeline coming through Dummer to feed the ships leaving for the Normandy beaches, a schoolboy watching the doodlebugs and a young girl who had an escapade with some herrings from Tyrrells!
There were tears and laughter during the evening and everyone left remembering those who had made so many sacrifices for us all.
