EASTERN Province left-hander Carl Bradfield hit an undefeated 95 and shared an unbroken century partnership with Michael Barnes as Portsmouth completed the double over the Hampshire Academy by an emphatic eight-wicket margin at St Helen's, Southsea.
Bradfield, pictured above, in fact, enjoyed a fine all-round match, taking 2-54 in a tidy 14-over spell on the windswept ground.
There was to be no reprieve for the Young Hawks, whose prospects of avenging their early season 121-run hammering by Portsmouth were effectively scuppered in the opening 30 minutes play when they slumped to 18-3.
Paul Jenkins (2-14) and Lee Savident did the damaging, removing Stuart Ransley, David Wheeler and Kevin Latouf in quick succession.
Tom Burrows (34) launched the recovery, but it was 15-year-old Dorset schoolboy Simon Watkins who really held the Hawks' innings together.
The young left-hander batted with considerable maturity, hitting a best-yet 75 to steer the Academy through a worrying 87-5 to an eventual 214 all out.
Mitchell Stokes (32) and Matt Metcalfe (31) provided timely support before Watkins was eventually run out, having been at the crease while the Hawks scored 192 of their 214 runs.
Metcalfe removed Savident at 19-1, but the six Academy bowlers toiled for a long while before Dave Griffiths trapped Sam Lavery (26) leg before.
But they were unable to remove the classy left-handed South African, who added 91 with Lavery before sharing an undefeated 105-run stand with Barnes, whose blistering 66 not out swept Portsmouth to victory with eight balls to spare.
