THE first day of Winchester's Hat Fair went with too much of a bang for many neighbours.
The World Famous Company staged a show including a fireworks spectacular on St Giles Hill starting at 10.45pm on Thursday.
But many people had no idea the event was on and the city council received more than 20 complaints.
Council officers have spoken to the Hat Fair organisers who agreed to finish a second aerial display tonight by 10pm.
Sue Blazdell, environmental health manager, said: "Thursday's display took many people by surprise. We hope that by making people aware of the display tonight it will allow residents to be prepared and enjoy the event."
Residents living on St Giles Hill were told about the event which attracted around 1,000 people.
