CHILDREN at a New Forest school are celebrating a double sporting victory.
Blackfield Junior School girls' football team were already delighted to have snatched wins in the Southampton six-a-side cup and the New Forest five-a-side championship.
Then the same pupils won the Hampshire Girls cricket Cup at the Rose Bowl after losing for the last two years in a row.
Peter Hinks, deputy head teacher of the Hampton Lane school, said: "It's an incredible achievement to do so well in the football season then carry on the success in cricket."
Fellow coaches had been pulling his leg asking if the team were going to lose following their previous years' losses. Mr Hinks adopted a simple strategy. He said: "I turned to the girls before the match and said 'Please can you win'."
