Grand day for Pitcher and Naomi House
Romsey Golf Club's James Pitcher earned the biggest payday of his professional career when he won the £1,000 first prize in the Captain's Charity Pro-Am at Royal Winchester Golf Club last Friday (June 25th).
The 25-year-old shot a five-under-par round of 66 to take victory by a single shot from Weybrook Park's Andrew Cloke with six players, including Richard Bland, Richard Adams, Jonathan Barnes and Russell Tate, sharing third place on 68.
Pitcher's winning round, in the largest Pro-Am tournament in the Hampshire PGA calendar, included eight birdies round the impressive Royal Winchester course.
A total of 56 teams took part in the event with Lee Booth and his team of Vic Grant, Jason Turner and Paul Terry taking first place after a scintillating 22 under par round of 120. Second place, after a countback, went to South Winchester's Richard Adams and his team of Jason Fuller, Mark Butler and Neil Cross with Scott Watson's team of Trevor Page, Darren Chatterley and Mark Dixon taking third place.
The tournament, organised by Gerry Marsh and supported by club captain Howard Brace, raised funds for the Naomi House Children's Hospice with a raffle, auction and other donations contributing around £4,000 to the charity.
None of this would have been possible without the generous support of numerous sponsors and Royal Winchester members, who took part in the tournament.
The club has a long association with the children's hospice, dating back to 1993, and the charity has been linked to the annual tournament since 1997.
