Angry residents of one Winchester street are demanding CCTV to beat vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
People in St Swithun Street were furious when their cars were among 70 targeted by vandals in the largest wrecking spree of its kind in Winchester last month.
Fiona Mather told fellow members at a meeting of the full council on Wednesday that people were sick of being victims. "They are concerned about repeated acts of vandalism, which are severely affecting their standard of living."
Brian Collin, portfolio holder for health, said there were no immediate plans for CCTV in that road. He said future provision was being reviewed soon at the end of a five-year programme of putting the cameras across the district.
"The recorded crime figures do not show that the area (St Swithun Street) has a disproportionate amount of crime. But it is clear that residents have suffered from a spate of vandalism and other anti-social behaviour which has given them understandable cause for concern."
He said counter-measures had been discussed with police including temporary surveillance.
* Police are still probing the 70-car spree which saw vehicles targeted in College Street, St Swithun Street, Wharf Hill and Cathedral View. Anyone with information about the culprits, believed to live in Highcliffe, should contact police on 0845 0454545.
