ANDREW McFarlane gave Hampshire's Bike It Dixon Yamaha team their third grand prix win in two weeks when he took the second MX2 race in Belgium on Sunday.
The Australian was in confident mood after his double win in the Italian Grand Prix and challenged Championship leader Ben Townley hard for victory in the first race before a broken front wheel forced him out.
Second time out, McFarlane and Michael Maschio fought it out for the lead after Townley retired with engine trouble. A slip by McFarlane let the Frenchman build a seven-second advantage, but when his rival developed brake problems and began to slow, McFarlane applied sufficient pressure for Maschio to make a mistake and crash.
The Yamaha rider went on to take the chequered flag and is now only 21 points behind third-placed Stephen Sword, who retired his Kawasaki in both races.
Wiltshire's Emma Hayles is lying third in the new Formula Women Championship after an impressive performance in the opening rounds. After a podium finish in the inaugural meeting at Oulton Park, Emma produced one of the drives of the day in the wet to take second place to double winner Margo Gardner at Knockhill.
The south's top grasstrack riders converge on Whaddoms Farm in Owslebury on Sunday for the Naomi House Charity Six-lapper. There are 50 races, starting at 12.30.
Eastleigh driver Shane Kelly was out of luck in the seventh round of the ARP Formula 3 Championship at Pembrey.
He was going well in third place when someone tried to overtake, spun and sliced through Kelly's rear tyre with his wing. Forced to go in for a tyre change, Kelly eventually finished ninth. Then an exhaust failure second time left him back in seventh place.
It was a similar story for Southampton's Matthew Speakman in the Super Coupe Cup at Pembrey. He was down on his luck in the first race when a spin caused a front wheel fire. Second time out, he made a great start from the back of the grid and was soon up to second in class.
Then it all went wrong again. His Rover GTi got knocked off the track, then he locked it up while trying to regain second spot from Martin Young. All he had to show for it all was a third in class.
