WINCHESTER College has appointed a new head teacher.
Dr Ralph Townsend, 52, who is head of Oundle School in Northamptonshire, will take over as headmaster in September next year. His appointment comes after the previous head teacher Dr Nicholas Tate resigned in April last year for family reasons.
Since then Tommy Cookson has been the acting head of the 670 pupil college, where fees are in the region of £22,000 a year.
He will remain in the post until Dr Townsend joins the college.
