HEAVY rain wrecked Saturday's ECB Southern Electric Premier League programme, with three Division 1 matches washed out without a ball being bowled and two others abandoned.

Andover, Bashley (Rydal) and Bourne-mouth were marooned altogether, but at least defending champions BAT Sports got 32 overs of batting in against table-topping South Wilts at Southern Gardens before the rain set in.

Neal Parlane, trying to hit his way back into form, had 21 on the board after just three overs - but perished when well-again Russell Rowe picked him up at gully off Lysander Wolf.

The dependable Rich-ard Kenway (18) was caught behind off South African Alan Kruger to give South Wilts their second success at 43-2.

David Banks, with an undefeated 58, and teenager Ricky Rawlins (31) lifted BAT to 130-3 before play was abandoned.

Old Tauntonians & Romsey lost three cheap wickets - two of them to Matt Metcalfe (2-22) - before play was abandoned against the Hampshire Academy with the basement club at 50-3.

Metcalfe got Paul Longland (1) and Kiwi Scott Shirley (6) after Jodey Brown (6) had fallen to Dave Griffiths.

Jeremy Ord (21) and Max Smith (12) were beginning to steady the ship when play was abandoned.

Bashley were spared the long trip to Portsmouth when the St Helen's ground on Southsea seafront was declared unfit shortly after breakfast.

But a weakened Havant travelled to Chapel Gate, lost the toss and were sent in to bat first in an already rain-curtailed 38-over affair - only for the heavens to open and the match to be postponed.

"It was very frustrating," said Bournemouth skipper Richard Scott.

"Every time we got the covers off, it started raining again.

"But, after the last downpour, there was absolutely no chance of starting."
