YOU CAN get two music greats for the price of one at Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday.
Not only is Jeff Beck, one of the world's greatest electric guitarists, coming to the venue as part of his first UK tour since 1990 but he is also being joined in stage by Jan Hammer.
Beck comes to Portsmouth fresh from picking up his fourth Grammy award.
His set promises to reflect the eclectic musical mix that has become his trademark.
Beck is best remembered for that perennial sing-along Hi-Ho Silver Lining which must be one of the most played and performed songs of all time.
But many people would be surprised to learn that it actually only reached number 14 in thecharts back in 1967.But it was his 18-month stint with The Yardbirds which made Jeff's musical reputation.
He played guitar on the band's classic hits Heart Full of Soul and Shapes of Things which were the blueprints for the psychedelic sound of the 60s.
Now 60, Beck grew up in Wallington, where his mother's piano playing and the family's radio tuned to everything from dance to classical made sure he was surrounded by music from a young age. Inspired by the music he heard, it wasn't long before Beck picked up a guitar and began playing around London - the rest is music history.Jan Hammer has contributed to most of Beck's albums since Wired but is best-known for the music he composed for Miami Vice.
