TIM Dunford (Hargroves Cycles) was again the strongest rider in the Barnsfield Heath handicap circuit race last Thursday.
He drove the scratch group to catch the entire field after six laps of the 12-lap, 42-mile circuit, jumping away with a group of five riders on the next lap.
They held a small lead on a hard chasing group to the finish where Tim comfortably took the sprint from Steve Moss (Bournemouth Arrow CC.)
John Samways (GA Cycles) restricted from chasing, because he had teammate Phil Gale in the break led in the bunch sprint.
Time trials tend to be made up of 70 per cent veterans, but junior Gyles Wingate (Principia RT) undeterred by the age gap finished second in the Bognor Regis 10-mile time trial last Thursday.
Winner was Aran Stanton (VC St. Raphael Waites Contracts) with Brighton Excelsior taking the team prize from the Raphael club.
Karl Strugnell (Jim Walker RT) was the overall winner of The League International time trial championships organised by Glenn Longland (Antelope RT) on Saturday.
The youngest rider in the field Karl was also under-19 champion. The event produced ten age related champions on a testing 30km course between Timsbury and Stockbridge and back.
Local riders were up in the National 50-mile time trial championship, Brockenhurst's Brenda Pennell (Eastern Region Velo Bianchi) was second and Paul Pickup (Liphook Cycles) sixth, and Neil Coleman (Alcan Sun Chemicals) seventh in the men's event.
Crabwood CC are running the second of their Heath road races from Applemore Leisure Centre on Tuesday evening at 7pm. Entries accepted on the line.
