A TRIO of air rifle and pistol shooting enthusiasts from Basingstoke have become the first local team in 15 years to win a national winter league.
Competing against fellow sides from across the UK, Basingstoke Air Rifle and Pistol Club (BARPC) members Adam Herod, John Milewski and Bob Ward won the 10-Metre Winter League.
The three shooters came first after 10 matches over the winter programme.
Speaking about their success, BARPC outdoor match secretary John Milewski said: "Shooting in the league involved competing against other airgun clubs based all around the UK.
"Although the team has done well in the past, this is the first time we've won the event in some 15 years, so we are all delighted."
BARPC members also enjoyed a winning return at the recent National Spring Gun Open in Lea Valley, Hertfordshire. Six of the nine trophies available were brought back to Basingstoke.
"It was another excellent day for the club, as two of the trophies were for first and second place," said Milewski.
The BARPC meets at the Walled Garden, Down Grange, for its outdoor shoots, and at East Oakley village hall for its indoor shoots. It also holds outdoor events at Popham Woods.
Milewski said: "The club have vacancies for new members and anyone interested in finding out more about the club, and shooting in a safe and enjoyable environment, should visit our website at www.barpc.org.uk"
