A PARADE of film heroes including Nemo, Marilyn Monroe and the entire cast of the Flintstones took to the streets of Wickham yesterday.
The movie-themed procession, which also featured Jaws, Grease, Superman, Robin Hood, Peter Pan and the nuns from Sister Act, brought the Wickham Carnival event to an end.
Carnival royalty prince Iain Broadley, princess Rebecca Lemon, deputy prince Jack Warwick and deputy princess Chelsea Castle waved to the crowds from aboard the first float as they led dozens of villagers through the streets in fancy dress.
A spot of rain didn't stop hundreds of residents pouring out of their homes as the parade made its way from the community centre through Mill Lane, Station Road, The Square, Fareham Road, School Road and Bridge Street.
It finished in the Square where movie buffs were met by face painters and stallholders, many with craft, local produce or hot refreshments.
Parade participants included the 1st Wickham Scouts, Wickham Youth Club, Hampshire police and fire crews, morris dancers and a host of steam engine enthusiasts.
Other highlights of the nine-day carnival event were the Wickham Oscars, the Quacky Races, a party night in Wickham Square, a jazz soiree, craft fayre and car boot sale.
Organisers hope to have raised thousands of pounds for local charities, groups and organisations.
