LIKE the teams battling it out at Euro 2004 in Portugal, Andover footballers shrugged aside the intense heat and got into goal-scoring ways at the weekend's Troy Parker Tournament.

Held at the sports field at Walworth Industrial Estate, the weekend marked the second successful year of the charity shield tournament.

Some of the footballing goodies on offer made a mint at auction for the charities benefiting from the event.

Bidders were keen to get their hands on some exclusive memorabilia - such as signed Southampton FC shirts - and raised a total of £1,356 for the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust and the paediatric intensive care unit in Southampton General Hospital.

Winner of the under nines category was Andover FC, winning the under 10s category was Test Valley and champions of the under 12s competition were the South Wonston players.

On Sunday, Upper Clatford triumphed in the under 11s category, Wolversdene pulled off a tight penalty victory against Hatherden in the under 13s competition and in the under 14s Test Valley A had a trio of goals in the final against Test Valley B, winning 3-0.

The day's organisers are still calculating the total funds raised over the two- day competition.
