A CHURCHWARDEN has created a peaceful haven in a Charlton churchyard for relatives to visit and remember loved ones.
Ray Sore created the quiet garden in a corner of St Thomas's Church for people to bury unmarked ashes among four rosebushes named 'Remem-brance'.
Donations given to the church committee have been used to support the project and will go towards the maintenance of the garden.
Also new to the church is a Book of Remembrance given in memory of former Charlton resident May Wise which will be kept in a cabinet donated by The Friends of St Thomas's.
The Rev Jill Bentall said: "We know that many people now live a long way from family graves and ashes are often scattered in places loved by the person who has died.
"We hope that this garden and book will provide a focus to continue to express the love and memories that are so much a part of many people's lives."
