SECOND to the right and straight on 'til morning - the acclaimed Yvonne Arnaud Youth theatre are heading for a unique double celebration with their sparkling new summer show.

Fifty young actors, ranging from seven to 18, will perform a new musical version of Peter Pan July 1 to 3 on the Guildford theatre's main stage to honour the 100th anniversary of the famous story.

And, excitingly, the Youth Theatre themselves are celebrating their 10th anniversary.

Director Julia Black, wife of sprinter Roger Black, said JM Barrie's classic is an eternal favourite and ideal to commemorate the theatre's birthday.

"It's perfect for a youth theatre to perform, because the story is very much about the spirit of youth," she said. "And this version is very unlike the versions you might see at Christmas.

"It's not a big star vehicle, it simply focuses on the fantastic story and the great characters that are in it.

"It's very relevant to everyone, because everyone has been young and everyone has dreams, so it captures the child in all of us."

Previous shows such as The Wolf Boys, The Selfish Giant, The Wind in the Willows and Shake, Ripple and Roll have sealed the reputation of the Yvonne Arnaud Youth Theatre as a group who will always provide top-quality theatre - in spite of their ages.

The production (pictured above) is adapted by Philip Glassborow, with musical direction from David Perkins.

Tickets, priced £8.50, with concessions available, can be purchased from the box office on 01483 440000.
