THE writing was on the wall when a group of community-minded children decided to
tackle a graffiti problem in the New Forest.
More than 20 youngsters removed slogans daubed on the side of St Mark's Church Centre, Pennington, and replaced them with a painted mural.
The mural, which celebrates diversity and national events, was designed with the help of local artist Rose Perry.
New Forest Community Safety Partnership and Hampshire County Youth Service funded the project.
Paint and equipment were supplied by Southampton City and Region Action to Combat Hardship and the Dennis Knights hardware store in Lymington. Stephanie Sutton, the district council's community safety officer, said: "Graffiti can lead to communities and individuals feeling intimidated.
"It can give people an increased fear of crime and is not something we want to see in our communities. The youngsters put a lot of hard work into the Pennington project and should be congratulated.''
