AFTER just one season of playing the alternative code of rugby, Gosport & Fareham's cross-code utility back Jonathan Wood has made his way into the England Lionhearts amateur Rugby League squad.
Wood, 23, impressed in Gosport & Fareham Vikings' inaugural year in the RL Summer Conference last season. And the talented youngster, who has played at the club since the age of eight, takes his place in the England side on Sunday at Hamilton, where they take on the Scotland Bravehearts in the first of a round of fixtures against the international home nations.
"It was definitely a surprise to be chosen," said a thrilled Wood. "This is only my second season in rugby league and I don't think I have played 20 full games yet, but to be picked and in my favoured position makes it even better."
