NORMALLY the boats are the stars of the show.
But for once the classic collection of vessels on display at the former Husband's Shipyard in Marchwood, were overshadowed by another form of transport. Members of the South Hants Vehicle Preservation Society staged an outing to the headquarters of the British Military Powerboat Trust.
The shipyard was invaded by 60 people driving cars and motorcycles, all of which were more than 30 years old.
They spent two hours inspecting the 15 boats on display and touring a Daily Echo exhibition about D-Day. The trust is desperately searching for a new home after being told to vacate the site, which has been sold to a new owner.
Trust spokesman Richard Hellyer said: "Members of the club thought the boats were superb and were dismayed that we've got to go somewhere else."
Visitors included Mike Petty, of Lower Upham, near Winchester, who arrived in a 1935 Morris Ten Four. He said: "I admired the tremendous amount of dedication shown by everyone involved."
