THERE was more international recognition for Southampton's Golden Ring Boxing Club when Iain Weaver battled his way to becoming a British Four Nations champion.
The 14-year-old competed against the best of Ireland, Wales and Scotland to take the 40 kilos category title in Liverpool.
In the first round he beat Irishman Willy O'Reilly, who boasted a record of just three defeats in over 60 bouts, 13-9 on points, using his southpaw jab to great effect.
Weaver still had a stern test to overcome in the final when he faced Ryan Smith of Scotland.
Smith started as favourite having lost just once in 18 fights with Weaver having been beaten five times previously.
However, Weaver scored a convincing 18-6 victory.
The success came on the back of glory for Golden Ring's Danny Kemp and now the club are looking forward to what could be a record-breaking third championship win when Tony Hill fights in Wales on June 17-18.
