SCORES of staff at Southampton's Ordnance Survey are getting to work under their own steam as part of National Bike Week.
But big-hearted bosses have arranged a slap-up breakfast for those that do get on their bikes on Wednesday, Bike2Work Day.
The mapping giant employs about 1,200 staff at its Romsey Road headquarters and workers at HM Customs & Excise and P&O Nedlloyd who share the site are also joining in.
OS is also planning visits from local cycle shops who will be promoting cycling and giving advice to those who are considering buying a bike.
A Bike Buddies scheme and a Crocodile scheme are being promoted as an opportunity to encourage inexperienced cyclists to travel in together.
"We provide showers and a bike park for the staff at our Romsey Road head office who already cycle to work," said Ordnance Survey's environmental adviser, Steph Middle. "We're hoping to encourage other colleagues to join them - getting fit and reducing the impact of car usage on the local environment."
