THE casualties of the battle for Normandy and the hospital staff who treated them will be remembered in an event at Netley's Royal Victoria Country Park today.
Once the country's largest military hospital, the Royal Victoria was located in the grounds of what is now the Hampshire County Council-run country park along Southampton Water.
The event - which is open to all - will remember those who were wounded or lost their lives in battle and the brave work of staff in military and civilian hospitals.
The 2pm to 5pm event will include an act of remembrance and historian Patrick Kirkby will show a film about the military medical staff who ran the hospital during the Normandy landings.
Admission to the event will be £1 for adults and 50p for children and OAPs.
