BASINGSTOKE Male Voice Choir (BMVC) returns to the Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke, this month with a very special event in its 40th anniversary year.
After the highly successful Anvil Concert celebrating St George's Day and marking the start of the choir's 40th year, BMVC is very proud to be presenting an evening of song at 7.30pm on Saturday, June 19.
This year's soloist, Haken Vramsmo, a young Swedish baritone, has taken time off from rehearsals at Glyndebourne to join the choir in a musical programme.
This includes various music from the '60s, a forces tribute, and a dedication marking the 60th anniversary of D-Day as well as popular songs of the era.
BMVC conductor Dai Ogborn said: "We're going to be covering all people's tastes with music from the shows as well as some favourite Welsh choral pieces.
"We are also going to do a fabulous number, Back to the Sixties, which will bring a very lively end to the first half.
"The D-Day tribute in the show is very important to us because, really, we wouldn't be here to celebrate our anniversary if those men hadn't sacrificed their lives. That will be our finale.
"Haken is coming straight to us from Glyndebourne and his programme will include opera and operetta performances as well as him joining us for the forces tribute.
"It's something for everyone - the music will touch a chord with every individual."
Without a doubt, an evening of nostalgia and great singing can be expected.
Tickets are available at £10 and £8 from the Haymarket box office on 01256 465566.
