EXETER CITY boss Eamonn Dolan is set to take a closer look at Winchester City skipper Danny Smith -- after the tough-tackling midfielder wrote the Grecians' chief a letter.
The former Cherries plaer is seeking a move up the non-league pyramid and has approached Exeter, aware the club need to shore up their midfield following the departure of James Coppinger and the likely exit of Dwane Lee.
Smith is out of con tract with the FA Vase winners and is known to have made contact with two Conference clubs, one of whom is Exeter.
Dolan admitted he has received some positive reports about the 21-year-old and is willing to give him a pre-season trial.
"He sent me a letter, so out of courtesy I contacted him and, as long as it is ok with his club, I will definitely give him a trial," explained Dolan.
"I haven't seen him play yet, I have simply had some good re ports on him.
"These are the types of players you have to have a look at because every now and again you can pick out a gem.
"We have got to look at every possible avenue to improve the squad."
