AS a result of the popularity of the primary schools sports festivals at Devizes and Marlbo-rough an additional festival is being staged this year at Tidworth Leisure Centre in partnership with Test Valley Borough Council.
Up to 350 children from primary schools in Tidworth and the surrounding villages are expected to converge at Tidworth Leisure Centre for the festival on Tuesday, 15 June.
The sports included at this year's festival are girls' mini-soccer, boys' mini-soccer, high-5 netball, basketball and athletics.
The event culminates in presentation of prizes and awards by Ludgershall councillor Peter Richard-son at 2.30pm. "The Primary Schools Sports Festival is often the first large scale-sporting event many children will take part in and the focus is very much on the fun and excitement of participation," said a Kennet District Council spokeswoman.
"This positive introduction to sport leads many children to join the junior sections of their local sports clubs, which in turn leads to healthy recreational activity for our local children and young people."
