POLICE in Andover will be stepping up patrols when England play their matches in Euro 2004, which kicks off tomorrow.
With many local pubs screening England's games live, bars are likely to be packed as the nation's football fans meet to support their team - with alcohol likely to be drunk in larger than usual amounts.
Licensees throughout the West Hampshire area - including Andover - have been written to in advance to advise them of the measures to be adopted by the police, and what they can do to ensure everyone enjoys the tournament.
Particular attention will be paid to any publicans who breach the Licensing Act 1964 by serving alcohol to anyone who appears drunk, violent or quarrelsome.
