Just two weeks after a vital kidney transplant operation, Andover teen-ager Naomi Jones is looking forward to coming home and a new future.
The operation in St Guys Hospital, London, involved Naomi's mum, Catherine donating a kidney. Both are now recovering well.
Naomi, aged 14, was born with a damaged kidney and has been on medication since birth. In July last year she suffered kidney failure and since last September her life has revolved around her dialysis treatment.
But that has all changed now - thanks to her mum.
After the operation daughter and mum were kept on different wards.
So Naomi sent a message asking her mum how she was.
Mum, Catherine told her she was fine. Naomi replied saying 'I'm fine and thank you'.
"Everyone was in floods of tears after that," recalled her mum.
According to her mum, who is now recovering at their home in Boscowen Close, Andover, Naomi already feels she has more energy and 'get up and go'.
Her mum too was able to talk to her Andover friends about the whole experience just three days after her operation to donate her kidney. "I was quite shocked about how well I was."
She added: "I feel it's all gone really well."
Naomi meanwhile is being looked after by her family in a flat near the hospital.
The kidney transplant means she can now lead what she calls a normal life.
When she returns home it will be the start of the school summer holidays but come September, her mum said, Naomi will be raring to go.
