Return To The Forbidden Planet - Southampton Musical Society, Nuffield Theatre
LOOSELY based on Shakespeare's The Tempest, the Return of the title refers to the audience who are returning to a play first written 400 years ago.
A spaceship lands on the 'created' planet of Dr Prospero, living with his daughter Miranda. Among the crew is his wife (Gloria), who sets him on his journey. Miranda falls in love with the spaceship's Captain Tempest. Add a robot, a jealous crew member and a final exploding planet, and you have the bones of the story.
A brave undertaking by the Musical Society is richly rewarded, as director Dawn Broomfield achieved admirable performances from all of the twelve cast, whose enthusiasm was evident to see.
Until Saturday, June 12.
