A Wiltshire fitness trainer has fought her way through an original entry of 10,000 to make the 16-strong grid for the Formula Woman Championship at Oulton Park this weekend.
Emma Hayles is about to become a household name when a fly-on-the-wall documentary about how the ladies qualified to race is shown on ITV1 during the summer.
The 22-year-old former Wiltshire netball player has always dreamed of being a professional racing driver and now she gets the chance.
The girls were put through five disciplines including fitness, reactions, general knowledge, media and driving before a final 50 went to a rigorous elimination camp, where some of the tests reduced the ladies to tears and tantrums.
The new Formula Woman Championship, in which all 16 girls will be behind the wheel of a Mazda RX8, will be contested over seven rounds at Oulton Park, Knockhill, Cadwell Park and Brands Hatch.
