SHANE WARNE will go head to head with an old Ashes foe when Hampshire take on an Essex side including Darren Gough at Chelmsford.
Warne and Gough were the respective talismen of Australia and England during the 1990's and they are set to play against each other for the first time since the final test of the 2001 Ashes series at Chelmsford this week.
Hampshire skipper Warne has always been a pal of Gough's.
"Some of the England players have needed to take a leaf out of Darren Gough's book," he said once. "He was a guy who impressed us because, as well as being a really good bowler, he wears his heart on his sleeve and gives his all. The public love to see a bloke expressing himself and enjoying the game like he does.
"With Gough they know they are watching somebody who will never give less than 100 per cent whatever the state of play. I don't know about his ancestry, but there seems to be a bit of the Aussie ticker about him."
